Electrical engineer

To work at our facility in Gig Harbor, Washington (near Tacoma)

Position summary

Design electronic circuits for low-frequency, low-signal analytical instrumentation. This requires the use of active and passive components including, but not limited to, analog, digital, and mixed signal integrated circuits, bipolar and mos discrete devices, and microcontrollers.

Essential functions

  • Preparing and revising engineering drawings
  • Designing electrical components for scientific and medical uses
  • Conferring with other engineers, management, vendors, and customers to discuss existing and potential engineering problems
  • Testing prototypes and existing products and documenting the results
  • Programming embedded processors for instrument control and signal processing using assembly language and C
  • Inspecting equipment and products to ensure conformance to specs and regulations
  • Assisting production workers in finding solutions to problems they encounter
  • Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of:

  • PCB design and layout (low-level, low-noise analog, and mixed signal
  • Signal transformers and inductors
  • Stepper and DC motor control
  • Control loop and signal processing algorithms
  • Use of test instruments for analog and digital circuit diagnosis, signal analysis, and component characterization
  • Data acquisition, data reduction, and statistical analysis techniques
  • Design of mechanical components and assemblies or instrument construction and packaging
  • Assembly language and C
  • Experience with National Instruments LabView is a plus
  • Product safety and electrical/electromagnetic regulations and requirements (e.g., CE, RoHS, etc.)
  • Computer circuit analysis and modeling techniques (e.g., SPICE)

Also desired, but not required

Familiarity with:

  • Linux operating system and programming techniques
  • Physical chemistry and chromatographic techniques
  • Properties of materials commonly used in analytical chemistry

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • B.S. degree from an accredited university, in electrical engineering or a related field
  • 10 years of experience engineering in a manufacturing environment
  • Working command of the English language (read, write, and speak)
